Floating parquet

Floating Parquet

Floating parquet is called wood flooring that is neither glued nor nailed to the support.

It consists of a lower base of stabilization or panel, and two or more layers of wood with water-repellent treatment, of which the intermediate (s) are usually of resistant and cheap wood, such as pine or spruce, or bamboo, and the upper or Finished, of noble wood for the aesthetic finish.
The standard dimensions of this material vary between 1800 and 2200 mm, with thicknesses of 12 mm and 16 mm and widths of 150 and 250 mm.

The base of the material, composed of cheap wood or bamboo, usually has a minimum thickness of 10 or 12 mm, and in relation to the noble layer, you will need to have a minimum of 2.5 mm of wood up to 6.5 mm.

According to the Spanish Federation of Wooden Pavements (FEMP), the minimum must be 2.5 mm so it can be called multi-layer wood floating floor, otherwise the material can not be stabbed and will have a short longevity.
Finally, the noble wood layer, usually incorporates a last of protection, which is usually varnish, UV water, with up to 7 hands.

Also some models incorporate aluminum oxide in their treatment, making them exceptionally resistant to the abrasion, also offer filters of ultraviolet rays, offering better behavior against the sun.

The hardness of the coating layer that usually covers these floors is measured with the Brinell test for fine surfaces and Taber abrasion tests according to ISO 9352 or ASTM D 1044.

The treatment, maintenance and conservation of this material is done by stabbing, also known as sanding and varnishing, although the repair and change of the pieces is somewhat complicated.

This relatively new type of flooring achieves a finish of the same visual quality as solid wood flooring, surpassing even in some aspects, as in dimensional stability, as the successive layers with the perpendicular veins are arranged, the deformations of the Parts due to humidity or temperature decrease.

The multi-layer floating floorboards usually incorporate a click anchor system, just like synthetic floating floorboards.

It is important to choose a material that correctly has the sheets adhered to each other, since this material is often found with the top or noble layer detached.

Check that the material has an upper or noble layer of at least 4 mm, although it would be advisable, 6 or 8 mm, since it can be stabbed more than once.

It is frequent to find materials of 1 or 2 mm, which is not possible to restore or stab.

Also a thicker upper or higher layer, offers better behavior against pressure stripes, since it is possible that casual blows, easily exceed 3 or 4 mm.
